Exploring the Nova Light Objects

@Delightex_Team @EdTechnocation @jaimedonally @rdene915

Hi everyone,

  1. Am I missing instructional resources that demonstrate how to use the new Point Light, Spot Light, and Directional Light in Nova? I shared my own exploration of the light objects. I’m sure there are gaps. When can the community expect official resources?
  2. Am I missing a Nova forum? One not requiring a third party account or a pay-wall. See my post.
  3. The CyberPunk City experience is cool and inspiring. Now, can someone explain how creating a Physics-Based Rendering(PBR) experience is different than choosing one of the other environments? When I click the Learn More link it opens a tab with just more marketing speak.
  4. What are the Reflection Capture objects in the CyberPunk City. What do they do? How do they work? They have eight basic properties, none of which are unique to this object.
  5. What is the Road_baked.fbx object in CyberPunk City? Does it interact with the Reflection Capture objects?

I am so excited about this product advancement. I’m sure a lot of people are. But it’s being tempered by having to figure so much of it out on our own. We’re looking forward to your response,

Thank you,

-Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks so much for your thoughtful questions and for taking the time to explore DX Nova! We really appreciate the detailed feedback and curiosity! Let’s go through each of your points.

  1. You’re not missing anything, as of right now there aren’t many official resources just yet, but we’re actively working on expanding onboarding materials and resources for DX Nova.

  2. We have a Discord server you can join here.

  3. PBR environments allow for more advanced and realistic lighting compared to the standard ones. You’ll notice materials and reflections respond to light in a more detailed way, especially when using the new lighting options.

  4. These capture the surrounding environment and improve how reflections appear on glossy or reflective surfaces. We recommend experimenting with their placement to see how they influence the look and realism of your scene. It can make a big difference in quality.

  5. That particular road asset is an imported external model designed with a reflective material to enhance the lighting in the CyberPunk City scene. It doesn’t have any special built-in properties, so you can freely copy it into your own scenes or even upload your own similar objects.

Thanks again for your questions and feedback, it helps us understand what resources the community needs most. We hope this helped in the meantime!
