How come when I try to make the tube less wide it snaps to a very thin or thick width - and it won’t allow me to make the size?
This is a problem with your snapping. Basically, you most likely have your snapping on something high, like 1 or 0.5. What you need to do is look in the top left corner of your screen. There should be a grid pattern with “Snapping” Written below. Click on this. A menu will pop up. Press on the blue checkmark next to “Snap to grid”. The check mark will go away, and snapping will be turned off. You should now be able to adjust the size more accurately.

James is spot on. If you still find it tricky after turning off snapping, try zooming in closer to the object. Most editors increase the handle sensitivity the closer you are, which helps with fine-tuning those dimensions.
